FAQ

Homeopathy is a traditional natural therapy to support health and wellbeing. It offers holistic, individual and integrated treatment with potentised medicines which aim to trigger the body’s innate natural system of healing. It is gentle but powerful in its action and is free from any chemical side-effects, making it especially suitable for Organic and Biodynamic farmers, as well as pets and their owners.

You can watch the video below to gain a more in depth understanding of Homeopathy and its benefits.

Homeopathy is a natural and holistic system of evidence-based1 medicine using the principle of treating like with like. The principle of using likes to treat likes has been known for hundreds of years and was formalised into a therapeutic system of medicine over 200 years ago by German physician, Dr Samuel Hahnemann.  This time-honoured principles of treating like with like can be applied to all forms of life – people as well as animals!

Homeopathy is a self-regulated and low-risk form of holistic medicine with little or no side-effects and can be prescribed along other forms of medicine.

Homeopathy has been established and refined for over 200 years. Extensive clinical experience, observation and research continue to support homeopathy as a valid form of medicine. Today, homeopathy forms part of mainstream medical practice in many countries throughout the world.

What type of medicine will be given?

Homeopathic medicines (also commonly referred to as homeopathic remedies) are made from natural substances in dilution, which aim to stimulate the body’s own natural healing response.

Our homeopathic drops are prepared using purified water (free of chlorine, fluoride and heavy metals) and a small amount alcohol (brandy or ethanol) as a preservative. The alcohol is necessary as a preservative, particularly for orders going to warmer parts of Australia.

We have an extensive homeopathic medicine dispensary and can supply a wide range of common remedies.  However, please keep in mind we are a clinic rather than a homeopathic pharmacy and there are guidelines around what we are able to dispense.

Not all homeopathic medicines and potencies are listed in our shop, so if there is something you would like but don’t see, please email us to check if it’s available.

Can homeopathic medicines be taken in conjunction with conventional medicines?

Please note that we are homoeopaths, not veterinarians, but our clinic offers a range of natural therapies which augment and compliment the advice given by your family vet.

Homeopathy is a complementary medicine that can work alongside other therapies or conventional medical or veterinary treatments where required.

How do I give homeopathic medicines to my animal?

Homeopathic remedies are usually provided as drops and are taken orally. Just give a few drops in the mouth.

If you are unable to give by mouth, you can put a few drops on the top of the head, or the beak, or other area where the remedy can contact the skin.

For larger animals it is also possible to have the remedy made up in a spray bottle.

The remedy can also be put in the animal’s drinking water.

The potency and dosage of the remedy can vary.  Depending on individual needs, a single dose or repeated doses of a remedy may be recommended.

What does a consultation for my animal involve?

The consultation will provide you with recommendations, including homeopathic medicines, aimed at improving your animal’s health.

During the consultation you may be asked many detailed questions about your animal, including physical, emotional and mental symptoms as well as relevant past history.  This is done in order to identify the most suitable homeopathic medicine for your animal.  Two animals with the same condition may be given very different remedies because of their individual set of symptoms.  Homeopathy is not a “one size fits all” approach, as what works for one animal may not be helpful or even appropriate for another.

If you think your animal has unexplained symptoms or is experiencing pain, please seek immediate veterinary advice. Please note we are homeopaths, not veterinarians.  We cannot diagnose disease or illness in people or in animals.  But we can offer a homeopathic program which may augment and compliment the advice given by your family vet.

What should I expect after giving my animal the homeopathic medicine?

Healing takes place in different ways and your animal’s response to homeopathic medicines may vary.  To expect an instant result in a chronic condition may be unrealistic and could be a reason for not securing a natural, positive outcome over a reasonable period of time.

Where a condition has developed over a long time, several successive remedies may be needed during the course of weeks, months or years.

After giving a homeopathic medicine, you may notice an immediate improvement in your animal’s symptoms.  Sometimes there may be an increased sense of wellbeing, even though some symptoms may initially remain.  In some cases, old latent symptoms may recur as part of the healing process.  And occasionally there can be a temporary worsening of symptoms for a day or so prior to improvement.

However, if your animal’s condition continues to decline please seek the advice of your vet. Serious injury and illness and longstanding conditions should never be treated without seeking appropriate veterinary attention.

Homeopathy and Naturopathy – what’s the difference?

Many people mistakenly believe that “Homeopathy” and “Naturopathy” are one in the same.  Naturopathy is a broad-spectrum practice which includes a number of natural therapies.  Naturopathic practitioners are likely to recommend multiple medicines and treatments such as herbs, nutritional supplements, massage, acupuncture, diet and iridology, and may include some homeopathy as well.

Naturopathic and Homeopathic training have different standards of education.  Naturopathic training usually only includes homeopathy as a minor elective option, rather than as the major dedicated focus of study.  Naturopaths are considered to be the “general practitioners” of natural therapies, whilst Homeopathy is a specialised and separate therapy in its own right.

NATURAL NUTRITION FOR ANIMALS

A healthy diet is the foundation for a healthy life.  Like humans, animals require a balanced diet containing all the necessary nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and water. Proper nutrition gives your animals the strength and vitality to grow and develop, as well as providing them with the energy to fight off infections.

Our dietary guidelines for cats and dogs are based on the work of holistic vet, Dr Ian Billinghurst.

For more information on natural diet for dogs and cats, see Dr Ian Billinghurst’s advice at   http://www.barfworld.com/

For comprehensive information we recommend Ian’s books, Give Your Dog A Bone and Grow Your Pup On Bones.  These books are available from his website.

Dr Clare Middle, a veterinarian from Western Australia, has written a simple and inexpensive little book summarising the principles of natural feeding.  It is available from our clinic or from other booksellers, refer to her website at www.claremiddle.com/book.htm
